The moving body as a tool to mediate conflict.
The moving body as a sustainable resource.
The moving body as a tool to shift, gain, and share perspectives.
The body must move to find perspective.
Transitioning values was the first creation of the Public Movement Session frame that now a large part of Connor's artistic practice. It was curated and developed for Museum Boijmans van Beuningen’s design exhibition Change the System.
Transitioning Values was reacting and engaging on the three themes of the larger exhibition: Conflict, Scarcity of resource, and Polyphony of perspectives.
The moving body as a tool to mediate conflict.
The moving body as a sustainable resource.
The moving body as a tool to shift, gain, and share perspectives.
Using the live moving body as its reflective tool, Connor guides a group of public through a series of physical movement tasks to reveal layers of perception and perspective through metaphor. Engaging the group in the development of their own perception of sensory experience of the body and its effect on the mind towards its capability to find meaning through reflection. This functions as a way to develop personal tools to move through space, understand, and exchange perspectives with others through their individual and common experience.
Beyond the engaged physical group, the space is open to observers passing through the exhibition space. This functions similar to any other artwork. As a group of people framed by the exhibit space, they are reflected on by the engaged observer, finding metaphor and relation through the complex, ever changing composition in the space. The exhibit space is framed by a visual of live streaming camera and projection. This installation creates an infinite feedback loop that is searching for a balance of colors and saturation, giving way to endless images and focus points for us to reflect on the inter-sectional multitudes of cause and effect the moving body brings to the space.
This was an attempt at a more inclusive space, open to any body with any capability, each person lending their existing state for us to practice the values which we want to live, move, and be together.
